What you will notice

Montessori at Felt, in plain words

Ask us anything on a tour.

Low shelves of wooden blocks and rings in woven baskets

Children choose their work

Work sits on low shelves where children can reach it. A child picks a tray, carries it to a table or the rug, and puts it back when finished.

Ages mix in a room

Each primary room holds children of ages 3 to 5. Younger children see what older ones are working on, and older children help with what they know.

The guide steps back

A guide shows a lesson to one child or a small group, then watches. If a child asks for help, the guide gives only as much as is needed.

What a work cycle gives a morning

  • Time

A long stretch with no bell, so a child can finish what they began.

  • Choice

A child decides what to work on and with whom, within the shelves the guide has set out.

  • Care

Work is put back ready for the next child, and the room is theirs to look after.

Watching a morning is the quickest way to understand the method.
